Player BlogDoing the QuadrupleWritten by Rene DuquesnoyUsually, I only like to do 1 or 2 shows a night. I think one time, during the holiday season, I did 3 shows the same day. Well, I finally broke my own record last week. I did 4 shows (played 3, voiced 1) on Saturday. I think I was at ComedySportz longer than I am at my day job for the day. I knew it would be a long day, so I tried to take it easy on Friday (by playing 1 show with my Playground team Homey Loves Chachi). First up was a private show for Butler County High School, from Kentucky. I played with Josh Breit and Rich Baker (for the first time ever). I have one word to describe this show. Tomatoes. Not tomatoes bad, but just the awesomeness that is tomatoes. After the first game, tomatoes became the running bit. During the show, I kept dedicating points to tomatoes, and I think tomatoes ended up with 6 points at the end of the show. The *points* audience really got into the tomato bit as well. It wasn't over done, and made this show probably the funnest out of the day for me. Butler County even shouted out "Tomatoes!" as a suggestion to start out last action joke. If Butler County comes back, I'm signing up and using tomatoes :) Next was the 6 PM. I was blue captain, and played with Jon Forsythe and Kate Cohen. This show was supercool because Jon was able to get all 5 things for the first time. Five things is probalby the hardest game in ComedySportz, and I'm glad to have been in the show when he got all 5. I remember when I got my first all five many weeks (okay like 3 months) ago. It is tradition to have the 'givers' sign the 5 things sheet and then frame it. The show was fun as well, but the 5 things stood out in my head. The 8 PM, I got to sit in the booth with the temporary house manager Matt Elwell, our Artistic Director. After a slight glitch in the opening, the rest of the show went pretty well. I enjoy doing voice. Playing music is fun, but I like making the sound effects and doing bits on the mic. My favorite thing is to play a song, and then turn it off but keep singing it on the mic. I like to sing. By 10 PM, I was exhausted and seemed to be losing my voice. Still...the show must go on. I played with Dave Gaudet and Kat Gotsick, 2 very old school players. It was fast and high energy. We played Dance Party, which I never played in a show. That was fun, but we also played one of my new favorite games, Irish Drinking Song. So fun and goofy. I like that game a lot. What a long day & night of fun shows. Would I do it again? Probably! |
