No shows Thursday, July 4th - but we're back with free cheese steak samples on July 5th & 6th!
In a special nod to the birthplace of America’s independence, ComedySportz will be offering free samples of Philadelphia’s most famous culinary export – the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich - during the upcoming Fourth of July Weekend. If you’ve never had one, they’re thinly sliced grilled beef tenderloin with onions and melted cheese on a long roll. Yummy! Our friend and neighbor, Philly’s Best, will be providing these hors d’oeuvre-sized samples for our guests at the 8 pm ComedySportz shows on Friday, July 5th and Saturday, July 6th. Philly’s Best is located at 907 W. Belmont, just the block from us, and is one of our favorites for our lunches, dinners and late night snacks.
In observance of the holiday, ComedySportz will be closed on Thursday, July 4th. The box office will reopen on Friday, July 5th at noon and our regular performance schedule will be in effect for all shows for the remainder of the weekend. So just around the time you recover your appetite from your July 4th cookout, we’ll be ready for you with some tasty Philly’s Best Philly Cheese Steak samples. Tickets are $24 for the 8 pm shows Friday and Saturday and $22 for all others (but no cheese steak for you at those shows, sorry!). Call 773-549-8080 to reserve your tickets!
Talk Hard and The Hot Karl to observe Pride with comedy and cocktails in midnight shows Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29
The Chicago Reader’s “Best of Chicago” Poll for 2013 is out and our own Jamie Campbell came out on top in the “Best Stand-up” category. Not only that, his weekly live, uncensored talk show, Talk Hard, was named Best Sketch/Improv Group.
Jamie can be seen at The ComedySportz Theatre most any day of the week. When he’s not performing as an improv player in our regular ComedySportz shows, he’s often performing or hosting our Monday night stand-up showcase, 100 Proof Comedy. Or, he might be on his way teaching stand-up comedy to students of The ComedySportz Training Center. And on Fridays, he and his team of writers and performers are spending a full day putting together the final touches on their Talk Hard show, performed every Friday at midnight.
Each week Talk Hard features an original monologue and an original comedy video created by a team of Chicago’s top comedy writers, a musical guest and guests whose talents might include anything from stand-up comedy to magic, wrestling or burlesque!
Talk Hard Lineup for Friday, June 22
Friday, June 22 at midnight, Talk Hard welcomes Chicago’s Nick Roy – the magical heartthrob who appeared on this season of ABC’s The Bachelorette. Nick is an accomplished magician who has also performed on the hit radio program Mancow, and will be bringing a jaw-dropping, magical performance to Talk Hard that will leave the audience both amazed and in-love!
This week’s show will also be joined by special guest Patrick O’Rourke, creator and host of the wonderfully hilarious podcast, web series and live show, Making New Friends. On Making New Friends, Patrick invites a guest and a friend each week in hopes of forging a new friendship. Hear about the tales live on the Talk Hard stage. He is also the founder of the digital comedy production company, Peaches & Hot Sauce.
Rounding out the evening, Crassus will be performing live. Crassus is a comedy power duo that plans to ravish you with laughter, hopefully while amassing great wealth but avoiding their own messy decapitations. You know: comedy. Crassus is Geoff Crump and Nat Topping. Crassus has performed at Chicago SketchFest, The Big Little Comedy Festival, and a multitude of friendly venues around the city of Chicago. Oh yeah, and Rockford. They headlined in Rockford once.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at The ComedySportz Theatre box office. Call 773.549.8080 in advance or buy them at the door. Attendance to the 10 p.m. ComedySportz improv show gets audience members into Talk Hard at half price.
Our popular house team, The Stevens Family, most recently seen as the leaders of the FUN-derdome improv jam on Wednesday nights, will be performing in a show of their very own Thursdays at 10PM, starting June 20th. The self-proclaimed "first family of Chicago improv" (who hails from Indiana) promises to “punch comedy in its stupid face.”
The Stevens Family cast includes (as pictured left-to-right in the photo at left): Abram Rabinowitz (Kocaine Stevens), Ryan Williams (Baller Stevens), Kevin Pomeroy (Pretty Ricky Ray Stevens), Alex Mack (Bowflex Stevens), Andrew Thorpe (Mustang Stevens), Matt Castellvi (D.R. Stevens), Jamie Campbell (Hulkhogan Stevens) and (not pictured) Nathan Jansen (Six Flags Stevens).
Tickets are just $5, or even free to guests of the 8 PM ComedySportz show. Reservations aren’t required, but call 773-549-8080 for more info. The show is recommended for adults 18 and up.
