| How did you get started with improv? In high school (Kansas) we performed two-person improv scenes for Forensics. Dropped it. Did Equity theater. Quit. Moved to Chicago to play music and got sucked into the Second City Training Program. I've been hooked ever since. What brought you to ComedySportz? Kevin Colby. He was a KC transfer to Chicago and he and I met outside the Second City TC auditions. After a year, he suggested I audition for CSz. So I did. What sets ComedySportz aside from the other improv you have done? CSz improv is fast and requires a rapid fire understanding of audiences. It's like speed dating with 200 people at once. What kind of shows are you doing now, and how has ComedySportz prepared you for performing elsewhere? I mostly do written (or somewhat written) work - either plays or performance art (DADA). CSz taught me to understand the rhythms of a piece regardless of the length and the ability to read an audience in real time. What is something you miss about performing ComedySportz? It's fun. Like a 90-minute meth high. No other style of theater has brought with it the elation or exhaustion that regular CSz shows did. What do you like to do when not performing? When am I not performing? |
